Festive Winter Style The Maze Way
Written by Jenny Garcia.
This time of year either has us covering every spare inch of home and body in mistletoe and twine, or running for the nearest dark room, fingers firmly in ears in a futile attempt to block out Mariah’s warbles, deftly swerving the sparkling from on high mayhem!
Making sartorial decisions when it’s freezing outside and expectations to shimmer and shimmy are dialled to the max, can weigh heavy, especially if you just want to curl up on the sofa to enjoy your 43rd viewing of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ whilst scoffing your bah humbugs.
Thankfully it matters not which Yule tide camp you sit in because Maze, as always has covered all bases, camps and moods. The most effective and simple way to approach this time of year is two fold:
1. Stay true to you
2. Think day to night
Don’t be tempted by all the glitz if it’s just not you. If you find head to toe glitter a bit OTT then dial it back, one magpie piece can be enough. One of the most classic and elegant solutions is the ‘festive midi skirt’. I’ve styled two choices here, teaming them with elevated knits. Both work day to night: The Des Petits Hauts Severine Skirt (as seen above) with the Howlin Disco Knit, and my outfit - the Bellerose Datev Knit and the Lena Skirt from Selected Femme.
Outerwear can be a big challenge when wearing longer length dresses or skirts. My advice is either go a little longer longer, Indi & Cold’s Marino is a great option for both skirts, or truly short, such as the Levete Owa Jacket. If you’re styling your skirts with the socks and trainers/loafers look, then the Bellerose Hubble Jacket adds an element of street style cool. Items below.

This season is all about rich textures. Nothing quite says autumn winter like velvet.
Des Petit Hauts have designed the perfect day to night trousers in a Velvet Devore Stripe, with a gently tailored feel with elasticated insert for comfort. Wear with Levete Silk Shirt or Selected Femme Selene scarf neck blouse.

The best thing about the Christmas period apart from the tree, time with family, friends, maybe a few gifts, mulled wine and the obligatory daily mince pie, is of course the Christmas jumper. We’re not talking flashing reindeer noses and Grinch motifs, no no no, I am alluding to the timeless Fair Isle jumper. Howlin’s 100% Scottish wool version, aptly named ‘Disco’ is a fine example. Perfect for the big day or every day. Wear with Des Petit Hauts sequin skirt or a simple pair of classic chords, another autumnal staple, top off with your choice of the Bellerose Hedge bombers.

Lastly, if you are firmly rooted in the bah humbug camp, then may I suggest the YMC Parklife dress and creepers, layered up with the most subtle festive nod ever. A mere whisper to the season, so quiet is said whisper, not even Rudolph would spot it in a lineup. I refer of course to THE colour of the season, red. Plump for any of the following: Red Daren tabard, Sideline red Nova or Indi & Cold long sweater red.

I hope you enjoyed this festive / not so festive edit and are now feeling a little warm glow of excitement and anticipation for the forthcoming festivities. The Maze Christmas fairies will be on hand in Clifton to help with any further styling ideas, please do pop in and say hi. The windows alone, styled by Lunaria Somerset, are worth visiting for.
