The Making Of Our Festive Window

There’s a particular energy that comes with dressing the shop for the festive season – ladders out, winter air drifting in, greenery scattered everywhere. This year, we partnered with florist Deborah Bain of Lunaria, whose work celebrates natural form,  slow craft and thoughtful making.

Across the day, she transformed bundles of winter foliage into a window full of texture and colour. It’s a display grounded in the Somerset landscape she works from, yet completely at home here in Clifton Village, where reflections of the Georgian terraces mingle with every stem.

Deborah chose materials that honour both the season and her slow, nature-led approach to floristry. She worked with armfuls of cypress and spruce, clusters of winter berries, dried seed heads and heathers – foliage that holds its shape and colour as the weeks pass. By choosing stems that dry beautifully in situ, the window remains vibrant without excess waste, echoing Lunaria’s considered way of working.

Deborah’s approach is rooted in working seasonally. The cypress and spruce were selected for their strength, forming the framework for the window, while dried heathers, seed heads and winter berries were added to bring warmth and contrast. Each element was placed in small, deliberate layers - a process that builds depth without overwhelming the natural shape of the stems. It’s a way of working that allows the installation to breathe and evolve over time.

To honour the natural textures Deborah created, we decided to document the installation on film. Shot by our very own Carla Coniglio, the images linger on details that digital photography often overlooks - the shift of morning light across the foliage, the reflections cast by the Georgian terraces, the quiet movement of hands working behind the glass.

The result is a set of images that feels timeless and rooted in place, rounding off a window that celebrates the season in its own gentle way.
