Sunspel and G.F Smith: A Colour Story
Hitting the road in search of inspiration, the Sunspel design team headed north to visit some of Britain’s most skilled specialist manufacturers. Traditional English woollen mills, luxurious Scottish lambswool and cashmere manufacturers were all high on the list, but it was in the archives of world renowned paper maker, G. F. Smith, that Sunspel found the inspiration they were looking for.
G. F. Smith know a thing or two about paper. They’ve been handling the stuff for over 130 years and they have an unrivalled archive at their headquarters in Hull. With over a century’s worth of paper swatch-books lovingly preserved in their archives, many decorated with intricate illustrations and refined typography, G.F. Smith revealed the depth of colour that inspired Sunspel’s rich autumnal colour palette for AW18.
Cool tones of blue and sea green boldly sit alongside strong autumnal shades such as terracotta and claret. Colours that should clash achieve balance and coherence thanks to the mastery of G. F. Smith.
Colour matched onto Sunspel’s high quality cottons, they bring a sense of refinement to the new season that will transport you back to a more genteel time.
