Coats. Are you an SB or a DB, a Teddy or Parka, Wool or Wax, Puffer or Padded? When it comes to coats and outerwear, we think it’s actually ok to subscribe to all of the above, let’s face it we experience pretty much every weather front going in an average Autumn Winter season. Besides, weren’t we always told as children to be prepared? Surely that means an outer layer for every eventuality. Well we’re absolutely running, clad in our fur lined parkers, with that at Maze this year. We’ve collated an outerwear edit from our favourite brands, that mixes practicality with personality and simplicity with style. There are subtle twists on everyday classics and easy throw on’s that elevate wardrobe staples.

Back by popular demand the Bellerose Parker, available in 4 different permutations, the only trouble is which one? Their little short hooded jacket is also a bit of a winner in the versatility stakes as it’s fully reversible, genius.

Talking of versatility, Indi & Cold’s take on the Teddy fur jacket is pure magic. Also fully reversible with a classic check on one side and faux Teddy on the other.

For a little Parisianne chic, the Sessun Nina will have you dreaming of Sunday walks round the Marais, keeping you warm and eco friendly due to it’s 80% recycled wool content.

Sessun’s play on a vintage style button through coat in a classic oatmeal wool, is heavenly. Perfectly executed with deep chunky foot stitch, and the most satisfying toggle fastening, wear belted or loose, up to you, but wear it you should.

Now, who doesn’t want to marry practicality, sustainability, functionality and any other words ending in ‘lity’ you can think of, in one piece of outerwear. We think Selected Femme have done just that and more with the Bonna Puffer. It can be worn three ways, and it’s two coats in one! The gilet is fully detachable, layer alone over a chunky knit, or under a rainmac (we’ll get to those), or for super cold days, double up. Made from 100% recycled polyester inside and out it really does cover all the bases.

When it comes to layering the chaps have got it down to a tee or rather a vest, or is it a gilet or a waistcoat? Anyway, Universal Works plaid fleece version is looking jolly cosy and playful with its blown up yellow and navy check. Rains 280g/m2 fleece style sounds impressively functional as well as looking pretty neat. Their quilted liner vest (and jacket) are also pretty handy for layering under the Rains waterproof macs as it gets cooler, or simply over your favourite jumper. Not just for the boys you know.
