How to style out the heat
Written by Jenny Garcia
As a nation, we love nothing more than to pass the time with our local shop keepers, fellow dog walkers, colleagues, friends and family, talking about the weather. So unpredictable is it in Blighty, that even the forecasters with their digital weather stations and orbiting satellites, can’t seem to predict it’s meteorological movements from one day to the next.
When it comes to heat, the stone cracking, sweat inducing swelter we’ve been experiencing for the last few days, we are quite simply not equipped to cope with it, forecasted or not.
Thankfully the team at Maze are well versed at styling out the heat. Here are some top tips and perspiration swerving outfits, to help you maintain your cool.
Straight in with our number one top tip, go natural. Not The Emperor’s New Clothes kind of natural, we’re talking natural fabrics. Linen, cotton and silk will all absorb moisture and allow your skin to breath.
Keep your colour palate light, silhouettes relaxed and free flowing. When it comes to footwear, again embrace the natural and go for cotton, leather, sandals or super light pumps.
Norse Projects Irja dry cotton vest teamed with Selected Femme’s Sesilie linen shorts, Hudson’s Sherbert sandal and Kate Sheridan’s midi tote will take you to work and beyond in ambient comfort.
We can’t get enough of co-ord’s. There’s a relaxed simplicity to this set giving it a all the summery feels, made from sustainable, breathable fabric, Lenzing Ecovero viscose, Selected Femme’s culotte and vest are an advisible choice. Wear with the Aponi Hudson sandal in black to ground the cream and finish off with the most incredible basket bag from Afro Art.
If you naturally reach for a dress in the heat, then a pinafore style is the perfect option for now and to layer up later. Indi & Cold’s side button relaxed linen pini, paired with Victoria’s pumps looks and feels wonderfully fresh.
Thankfully things have moved on when it comes to work wear, with many men now able to wear shorts. So whether you’re in the office, home or out and about Oliver Spencer’s drawstring shorts, made from 100% organic cotton are the perfect antidote to the scorching rays. Their rich earthy tone is complimented by Universal Works’ linen Road shirt, and the YMC wing tip trainer.
With your outfits sorted, keeping your clothes fresher for longer is made easy with the nifty Cirrus hand steamer. Simply give your garments a quick once over before hanging them back in your wardrobe.
Now you’ve taken good care of your clothes, it’s time to turn your attentions to you. Our skin can struggle to breath under layers of SPF and the days pollution, so we’re big fans of The Seated Queen Cold Cream Cleanser, which works as a makeup remover, evening cleanser, facial or overnight mask.
As a final note, whilst we’re on the subject of nighttime, add a slick of Frama Body Lotion to sun dried limbs, and lastly block out the day gone by and impending sunrise with La Cerise Sur Le Gateau sleep mask. All guaranteed to induce a peaceful, calm, relaxing nights sleep, we hope.
Did I mention we love talking about the weather!
